Rawlingsの新型外野手グラブRT80をガチレビューしてみた

Even though I'm at the store every day selling gloves, opening a box and finding a new glove still gets me excited (lol).
Being able to see new products before anyone else is a privilege of being a shop assistant (・∀・)hehe

This time, I, Sato, who has only lived for outfield defense, will give an honest and serious review of Rawlings' hardball outfield glove, the "RT80 model"!!!


Before that...
This RT80 is part of the "PRO PREFERRED" series, and I'd like to explain a bit about it.

Gloves in the PRO PREFERRED series use Canadian kip leather, a leather renowned for its suppleness and fine grain.
It has the chewy texture characteristic of kip leather, and the more you use it, the better it gets (・∀・)hehe
The back of the glove (where you put your hand) uses leather tanned using Rawilings' unique processing method on Japanese cowhide.
It is characterized by its high grip, allowing the glove and hand to become one, enabling you to handle the glove as if barehanded.

Now, let's get to the main topic!!!

This RT80 model is a new model number released for the 2025 F/W season!
RT8... Is there any glove enthusiast out there who gets a hint?

That's right! It's the "Ryosuke Tatsumi No. 8" model, for Ryosuke Tatsumi of the Rakuten Eagles.
Tatsumi's strong play at the ball's edge, his quick transfer after catching, and his accuracy are supported by this glove (・∀・)hehe

Its characteristic is its 13-inch (33 cm) size, making it the largest among gloves!
However, because the pocket is deep and has depth from the start, it doesn't actually feel that big.

Let's compare it with the B88 model here.
The left is the B88 model, and the right is the RT80 model.
According to the manufacturer's size chart, the B88 model is 12.5 inches (31.8 cm), which should be more than 1 cm shorter than the RT80 model, but

They don't look very different, do they!?!?
In fact, the RT80 model looks smaller...

Does it make more sense with these arrows? (・∀・)hehe

Since the palm is long, the center of gravity is closer to the hand, and it feels easy to handle.
The first thing I do when a glove comes in is pick it up and put it on, and this one felt the most comfortable!

As for the "shape" of the glove, you can use it in the so-called vertical style, with the thumb and pinky fingers, or
you can also use it in the twisting style, where you fix the thumb and catch with the ring and pinky fingers!

Using a large glove provides a sense of security.
It really shows its worth in clutch plays.
You might think "big means heavy," but many modern outfield gloves are designed with a center of gravity closer to the hand, making them easy to use!
